The Hungarian government has initiated declaring the Antifa movement a terrorist organisation in the European Union, the foreign minister said in Brussels on Monday, adding that the step would follow in the footsteps of the US.

Péter Szijjártó told a press conference after a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels that US President Donald Trump has declared the movement a terrorist organisation in a presidential decree.

“We did the same thing in Hungary, and we initiated in a written document on December 10th that the EU also declares Antifa a terrorist organisation,” he said.

“This will clarify what people really think of terrorism, violence and democracy,” he said.
