“The Hungarian government firmly rejects threats by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and calls on the neighbouring country to stop jeopardising Hungary’s energy security,” Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Facebook on Sunday.

Szijjártó said Zelensky had “outrageously threatened Hungary” at a press conference held jointly with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Answering a question concerning a recent attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline, the Ukrainian president said “friendship between Ukraine and Hungary depends on Hungary’s attitude”.

“We consider sovereignty and territorial integrity as fundamental values of international politics, and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country, just as we expect every other country to do the same,” Szijjártó jarto said.

“In recent days Ukraine has launched serious attacks against the security of our energy supply,” Szijjártó said, adding that the Hungarian government took such attacks as ones against the country’s sovereignty.

“Violating our sovereignty cannot be legitimately explained with a war we have nothing to do with,” he added, and called on Zelensky to stop threatening Hungary and jeopardising its energy security.
