A man has been charged with attempted murder by the Pest County Chief Prosecutor’s Office after he slashed the throat of the man who sexually harassed his daughter at the Kerepes HÉV station. The harasser faces charges of indecent assault and disorderly conduct.

In February 2024, the daughter was travelling by HÉV from Budapest to Kerepes. During the journey, a member of a drunken group made lewd comments to her and stroked her leg while licking his lips. Outraged, the girl told the man to leave her alone and threatened to call the police. An argument ensued, and the man raised his hand to strike her, but his companions held him back.

The girl then called her mother and later her father, explaining what had happened. The parents got in their car and went to the Kerepes HÉV station. When the girl and the group of three men got off the train, the father was already waiting on the platform. When asked, the girl pointed out the harasser.

The father confronted the man and tried to take him down by grabbing his neck, but the harasser escaped the hold and pushed him. Then the father took out a utility knife and cut deeply—20 centimetres long—on the left side of the man’s neck. The girl’s mother immediately called the ambulance.

The harasser’s injury took several weeks to heal, and it was only by chance that he did not die. The Pest County Chief Prosecutor’s Office accuses the father of attempted murder, while the harasser faces charges of indecent assault and disorderly conduct. The Budapest Surrounding Court will decide the guilt of the accused.
