Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has once again sparked international debate with his comments on migration, this time drawing an unexpected reaction from Elon Musk, the world’s richest businessman and owner of the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

As Index reported, Orbán recently stated that while migration is often portrayed as a highly complex issue, from a legal perspective it is, in his view, remarkably straightforward. He used the opportunity to sharply criticise the way European leaders have handled immigration over recent decades, arguing that the continent’s current approach is neither accidental nor poorly planned.

According to the prime minister, mass migration into Europe is the result of a deliberate political strategy pursued by left-wing forces. He claimed that the ultimate objective of this policy is to fundamentally reshape European societies by replacing native voters with newly arrived populations who are more likely to support progressive political movements. These remarks are consistent with Orbán’s long-held opposition to immigration and his broader criticism of liberal politics in Western Europe.

In a short video shared on X, Orbán placed today’s migration debate into a wider historical context. He suggested that European politics has been shaped for roughly the past 150 years by what he described as a struggle between two competing “tribes”. One of these, he explained, believes Europe should remain rooted in its traditional foundations, including national sovereignty, personal freedom and Christianity.

While Orbán did not explicitly describe the opposing “tribe” in detail, his comments were clear enough to prompt a reaction from Elon Musk. The technology entrepreneur reshared the Hungarian prime minister’s video on X, adding a single word in response: “True.”

Despite its brevity, Musk’s comment attracted significant attention, as it signalled clear agreement with Orbán’s interpretation of Europe’s political and cultural divisions. Elon Musk has increasingly positioned himself as a vocal critic of mass migration and progressive politics in the West, frequently using his platform to comment on social and demographic issues.

The exchange highlights how Hungary’s migration policy and Orbán’s rhetoric continue to resonate beyond Europe, particularly among influential figures in the United States. It also underlines the growing overlap between political debates in Europe and the culture-driven discussions taking place on global social media platforms.
