Winter’s last laugh? Hungary set for rapid shift to spring-like temperatures

Hungary is set to experience a sharp departure from wintry conditions as February kicks off, with meteorologists warning that any snowfall early in the week will be short-lived.

Snow and ice at the start of the week

Sunday and Monday will see lingering wintry conditions across much of the country, with snow showers still possible in several regions. Early Monday morning may bring frost and icy patches, particularly in the northern and central areas. In parts of southern Transdanubia, snow could turn into freezing rain as temperatures begin to rise in the atmosphere, according to Időkép’s weather forecast.

By Tuesday, a warm front moving in from the west and southwest will bring precipitation, including rain, sleet, and continued snow in the northern highlands. The weather will gradually shift northeastwards in the afternoon, leading to rain in most areas by evening, although some snow and icy conditions may persist in the North Hungarian Mountains.
