Exact venue of Hungary’s 1st Islamic cemetery revealed: it will be close to Budapest Airport

Üllő Te Vagy, a civil organisation leading Üllő, a town close to Budapest and near Budapest Airport, revealed the 1st ever Islamic cemetery that will be built in Hungary. Approximately 50 thousand Muslims live, study or work in Hungary and the leader of the Hungarian Islamic Community, Zoltán Bolek, believes they need an authentic Islam cemetery close to Budapest.

We wrote about the project in December 2023 for the first time. Back then, Mr Bolek did not reveal where exactly they would like to build the new Islamic cemetery but said it would be close to Budapest and the M0 motorway. He also said that they obtained all the necessary permits for the construction. Therefore, the cemetery will be ready in 1-2 years.
After the takeover of the leadership of Üllő following their 9 June victory, Üllő Te Vagy, a local NGO, revealed where the new cemetery would be built and shared maps showing its exact location.
According to their post, the Hungarian Islamic Community bought a 7,000 sqm area between Vecsés and Üllő, where they would like to place the new cemetery. They went out to the area and asked for information from the Hungarian Islamic Community since they received no information from the previous Fidesz-backed city leadership.
Mortuary and graves surrounded by forests, agricultural lands
The Hungarian Islamic Community has been operating officially in Hungary since 1988. Most members of the community are Hungarian Muslims who reject any extremism. They have parcels in Budapest, Debrecen, Pécs, Miskolc and Harkány cemeteries, but it has become clear in the last few years that they will need a larger area to bury their loved ones properly, which is why they bought the area between Vecsés and Üllő.
They received all the necessary permits from the Hungarian government and started construction. The new cemetery will be surrounded by forests and agricultural lands and is accessible from Vecsés. They will also build a 50 sqm mortuary there.
