Unique opportunity in Australia: Hungarian-speaking actors needed for a horror film

MAGYAR is a 15-minute psychological horror film that will be shot in Sydney, Australia in June 2023.  

The organisers are searching for Hungarian-speaking talent based in Australia to enliven this migrant story of cultural displacement and alienation. MAGYAR tells the story of Hungarian migrant Anna who resettles in remote NSW in 1962. After reluctantly swearing an oath to naturalise as an Australian citizen, Anna begins to be haunted by a woman who wears a mask that bears an uncanny resemblance to her own face. The film explores the tragic idea that sometimes to belong, we become deformed versions of ourselves. The orginaizers believe this is an exciting opportunity to highlight a previously overlooked Hungarian story and look forward to working closely with the local Hungarian community in Australia.

Roles

Anna: Late 20s to early 40s. After weathering years of struggle in Hungary, Anna arrived in Australia with a sense of youthful optimism. That naivety is long gone. Anna’s longing for the past has kept her from embracing her new home. While her relationship with her husband Adam may have begun with a youthful flair, she has grown bitter and resentful of his commanding nature.
