FM Szijjártó: If it were up to Trump, there would be peace in Ukraine, but Brussels want war

If it were solely up to US President Donald Trump, there would already be peace in Ukraine, but if it were up to Brussels, they would bring war to the European Union as well, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in Washington, DC, on Tuesday.

Szijjártó hailed Trump’s return to office as the dawn of a “new golden age” in Hungarian-US relations, calling the US president “the sole embodiment of hope for peace” in Ukraine.

“The hope for peace today is actually called Donald Trump,” Szijjártó said, according to a ministry statement. “American peace policy offers hope that this bloody war in our neighborhood may end sometime after four years. We are grateful to Donald Trump for these efforts.”

Szijjártó said it must be clearly stated on the fourth anniversary of the invasion that “if Donald Trump had been president, this war would not have broken out, and if it had been up to Donald Trump, this war would have ended last year.”

“The war has not ended because Europeans in Brussels have decided that this war must continue. Europeans in Brussels live in an atmosphere of war fanaticism,” he said.

“In Brussels, they decided that they want to send troops to Ukraine, that they want to flood Europe with the flames of war, that they want to send Europeans’ money, including Hungarians’ money, to Ukraine, throwing tens and hundreds of billions of euros into a bottomless pit, and they want to bring Ukraine into the European Union, which would obviously bring the war into the EU as well,” he added.

  3. No wonder all Fidesz politicians are currently hyperventilating on all channels, hysterically releasing new campaign announcements almost every minute. Szijárjtó, in particular, stands out in this regard.

Reuters reports that the center-right opposition party Tisza in Hungary has widened its lead over Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party since February, according to a widely followed poll released on Wednesday.

The Party of the Magyars, founded only in 2024, garnered 55% of already-decided voters, compared to 51% in January. According to a poll conducted between February 18 and 23, Fidesz’s support fell from 39% a month ago to 35%.

Besides the two major parties, only the far-right party Mi Hazank has a chance of entering parliament, according to Median. It can count on 6% of the vote, compared to 5% in January.

The Median polling institute has one of the best track records for predictions in Hungary. It correctly predicted Orbán’s landslide victory in the last election four years ago, but slightly overestimated support for the opposition.

While most polls show Tisza with a lead, Fidesz points to polls that still show it on track for victory. However, its opponents say that these were mainly conducted by institutes with financial or personal ties to the ruling party.

  4. Szijjártó should find out why the US is imposing new sanctions on his supposedly peace-loving Russian people. I know, only the West and Ukraine are to blame for the war continuing. Even a deaf blind man with a walking stick, but with some sense, wouldn’t believe that anymore.

Here are the new sanctions: The US Treasury Department has expanded its sanctions list against Russia, adding four individuals and three organizations involved in cybercrime. This was reported by the US Treasury Department press office.

The sanctions list includes several Russian citizens—specifically Sergei Zelenyuk, Oleg Kucherov, and Marina Vasanovich—as well as Uzbek citizen Azizjon Mamashoev.

In the United States, Zelenyuk is suspected of acquiring and subsequently reselling at least eight cyber tools that belonged to the US government and had previously been stolen from a US company and sold without proper authorization.

The U.S. Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on Advance Security Solutions and Special Technology Services LLC FZ, both based in the UAE, as well as on the Russian company MATRIX LLC.

According to the department, these entities are involved in the purchase, sale, and trading of undisclosed software vulnerabilities—so-called zero-day exploits—that can be used for cyberattacks, data theft, and the creation of ransomware.

The restrictive measures were imposed under the CAATSA Act, which provides for sanctions related to intellectual property violations and activities connected with cyber threats.

  5. I believe Donald declared, if elected, he would have stopped the war in 24 hours. We see where we are after a bit more than 24hours.
