Tourists beware: Yellow “taxis” are scamming visitors at a popular Hungarian festival

Change language:
One of the Balaton region’s most popular festivals, VeszprémFest, was held over several days this July. While the festival brought music and celebration to the Lake Balaton region, it has also attracted opportunistic scam drivers pretending to be legitimate taxis. Be careful before hopping into a yellow car!
Fake taxis charging outrageous fares
According to a public warning from Bakony Taxi, unlicensed drivers with yellow vehicles have appeared in the city during the event, offering overpriced rides, often targeting tourists unfamiliar with local services. These cars may look like official taxis, but they are not affiliated with any licensed company.
The company strongly advises all visitors to order taxis only via phone or a dedicated app. By doing so, passengers receive exact details about the vehicle, including the license plate, car type, and colour. In the app, the ride can even be tracked in real time, reducing the risk of mistaken identity.
