This is how you can get the highest salaries in Hungary!

Hungarians always complain that they get much lower wages than people in Western Europe. Therefore, many of them already have left the country and are working in Germany or Austria since they would not be able to make it through with what they receive. However, even though the international reputation of Hungarian football has sunk below any bars set before, Hungarian football players receive high wages even in the second league of the national championship.

According to hvg, a player of the second league, for example, can take home HUF 7.3 million (EUR 20 thousand) in a year. That is the reason why top-league Hungarian football players continue their career in the second league. For example, Balázs Dzsudzsák, the most expensive Hungarian player of all time, will continue in Debrecen while Máté Pátkai and Otigba Kenneth will play in Vasas (Szombathely). Interestingly, in Hungary, transfer prices and salaries are not public. However, hvg‘s sources in the sector said that, in Debrecen and Szombathely, the average salary is around HUF 1 million (EUR 3,000) per month. The best players of the teams get even more money. For example,

Vasas gives HUF 5.4-7.3 million (EUR 15-20,000) per month

while Otigba gets HUF 6 million (EUR 16,100), Pátkai receives HUF 4.5 million (EUR 12,300), and Róbert Feczesin’s wage is HUF 3.65 million (EUR 10,000).

In Debrecen, HUF 3.65 million is the top wage. However, the difference is significant between Vasas and Debrecen and the other clubs of the second league. Therefore, in the second class, receiving HUF 1.1-1.4 million per month (EUR 3,300-4,300) can be regarded as a good salary, as the average is around HUF 600-800 thousand (EUR 2,000-2,600) while the lowest ones stand at HUF 400-500 thousand (EUR 1,000-1,500).

The salaries the players receive do not mirror the performance of the teams.

Vasas, for example, currently stands in the 13th position, and only the first two teams will get to the first league of Hungary at the end of the season.
