Southern Budapest to become a student district

In fact, North-Csepel and Soroksár are at the moment examples of the neglected stain zones of the Hungarian capital. However, thanks to the Budapest South Gate Program they might receive a dormitory for 12 thousand students – reported magyarepitok.hu. Thus, it can become one of the many student districts of Budapest.

Renewal of South-Budapest

According to TED, the EU’s Supplement to the Official Journal, dedicated to European public procurement, the relevant plans are already in the preparation phase. The aim is to make good use of 135 hectares in the so far neglected southern part of the city. In fact, many Hungarian and international design offices were requested to join the competition. Though the Budapest South Gate Program existed before, only now has it become clear that it aims

to revive the stain zones of North-Csepel and Northwest-Soroksár

based on a modern concept.

The application concerns the land surrounded by the Danube river, Rákóczi bridge – Könyves Kálmán boulevard, the Soroksári and Weiss Manfréd streets. According to the preliminary plans,

the new Danube bridge will connect the new student district with the city.

Dormitory, sports and recreation centres

One of the most important elements of the project is to build a student city with 12 thousand places. This not only means the dormitories but also buildings for sport and recreation. Besides, it also involves the arrangement of the Danube bank which will receive utilities and transport infrastructure.
