Germany, Belgium outraged for PM Orbán’s veto concerning Ukraine

Germany and Belgium sharply criticized Hungarian premier Orbán on Wednesday for blocking a new EU sanctions package against Russia and a €90 billion ($106 billion) loan for Ukraine.

Hungary betrays its own struggle for freedom

At a joint news conference with his Belgian counterpart in Berlin, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Hungary was contradicting itself.

“Last December, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán agreed to precisely the course of action that his foreign minister is now blocking. Hungary cannot explain this inconsistency,” he said.

“I remain appalled by Hungary’s behavior. It betrays its own struggle for freedom,” he said, referring to Hungary’s pivotal role in 1989, when it became the first country to cut through the Iron Curtain.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot echoed the condemnation, labeling Hungary’s blockade “unacceptable” and warning that the patience of fellow EU members was wearing thin.

“We are all aware that elections are a difficult time; we experience this ourselves time and again,” Prevot said, nodding to Hungary’s upcoming parliamentary elections in April.

Orbán crossed a red line

“But to take the fate and needs of Ukraine and its people hostage in a war situation seems to me to be a red line,” he continued. “I call on Hungary for a reconsideration of this position, in order to remain true to this commitment, this obligation.”

The criticism follows a letter Orbán sent to EU leaders on Monday, in which he faulted Ukraine for failing to restart oil transfers through the Druzhba pipeline — a key conduit supplying Hungary with Russian crude. Orbán noted that Budapest had previously backed EU decisions favorable to Ukraine but deemed the current impasse unsustainable, arguing that Kyiv was creating an energy emergency situation.

  1. ‘Germany, Belgium outraged for PM Orbán’s veto concerning Ukraine.’

This is a wildly inaccurate statement.

What would be accurate would be the following…

Germany and Belgium political establishments, who serve the Transnational Western Elite, are outraged for PM Orbán’s veto, because it is hampering their ability to wage a regime-change war on The Kremlin, at the expence of the Russic peoples who live in the Ukrainian Region of Russia.

    • Enough Kremlin disinformation. It is Russia that wages war on Ukraine, Georgia, Syria. No one in the West is causing regime change in Russia. Only Putin’s stupidity can achieve that. Ukraine is a sovereign independent country whose sovereignty was recognized in no uncertain terms by Russia in the Budapest Memorandum. Mouton just confess that you are Russian not American as you falsely claimed for so long. It’s obvious to everyone especially after a Kremlin propaganda post like that.

      • Dear Larry – it is The Western Elite which overthrew Syria, and tried to overthrow Georgia, not Russia and not Sardinia.

It is also The Western Elite which 3 times, since 1991, has overthrown the legitimately elected head of The Ukraine – not Russia nor Monaco.

It is also The Western Elite which has manipulated elections in Moldova, Germany, Poland, and Hungary, and, as well, simply removed the leading candidate from the recent Romanian presidential race, nor Russia nor Luxembourg.

The West also tried to remove the governments in Kazakhstan and Byelorussia, not Russia nor Singapore.

The list is not even complete.

At least be fair, Dear Larry – in your analysises.

        • It’s the Russian barbarians that invaded Georgia and Ukraine. Western countries have not invaded their neighbours since borders were settled in 1945. It is Russia that is a constant threat to its’ neighbours invading and taking territory. As for Syria that was a satanic government of Bashar al-Assad that killed hundreds of thousands of its’ own people including with poison gas all which the Russian barbarians participated in. Thank God Al-Assad is gone and the Syrian people can now establish peace and a better life. The tipping point was Russia’s distraction with the war in Ukraine and inability to send forces in to assist al-Assad. Another loss for Putin caused by his disasterous decision to invade Ukraine in addition to causing Sweden and Finland to join NATO. Russia is on the long slide down and is killing its’ own future with its’ war.

          • Russian commanders actually execute (Russian army term is “Zeroing”) and torture their own soldiers on the front helping to build up their own losses. They execute some just to take their bank cards for their accounts which just got their signing pay. They execute others who refuse to fight and must make the fear of them greater than the fear of going to near certain death fighting on the front.

        • Mouton, I heard from you nonsense but this time is outrageous!!!

Putin did not help Alassad to kill hundreds of thousands of Syrians?

What a stupid AI BOT you are!

  3. With a national debt of 107% of GDP, Belgium should be happy with the Hungarian veto. This way, Belgium might still have some money left to tackle the national debt and reduce the tax burden.
