One of the biggest Spanish newspapers calls Tokaji wines world class!

El Mundo, one of the biggest Spanish-language newspapers in the world, has stated Hungary’s Tokaj wine region produces some of the best sweet wines in the world.

Located in North-eastern Hungary near the borders of Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania, the Tokaj region was declared a World Heritage Site in 2002. But why, El Mundo asks?

The reason is simple. The wines from this region, especially, the sweet ones, are as good as France’s sauternes and Portugal’s ports. Louis XIV even described Tokaji wines as “The wine of kings, the king of wines”.

Covering an area of 7000 hectares and encompassing 28 municipalises, the Tokaj wine region started producing wine as early as in the 12^th century. According to El Mundo, the most famous wine from Tokaj is the furmint, followed closely by the hárslevelű.
