Ominous Covid-19 record: number of deaths at a new peak in Hungary

Fully 272 generally elderly patients with co-morbidities died over the past 24 hours, while 9,637 new infections were registered, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Thursday.

Altogether 1,747,519 people have been vaccinated in Hungary, 524,604 of whom have received a second shot, the portal said.

The number of active infections has risen to 196,553 while hospitals are caring for 11,760 Covid patients, 1,467 of whom need respiratory assistance.

Altogether 54,422 people are in official home quarantine, and the number of tests stands at 4,403,317.

Since the first outbreak, 603,347 infections have been registered, while fatalities have risen to 19,224. Fully 387,570 people have made a recovery.

So far, most infections have been registered in Budapest (114,552) and Pest County (84,190), followed by the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron (34,578), Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (33,368) and Hajdú-Bihar (32,252). Tolna County has the fewest infections (13,075).

Coronavirus-related restrictions extended until March 29

Shops, with the exception of grocery stores, pharmacies, petrol stations, drugstores, tobacco shops, shops selling tools for “spring gardening”, pet food and fodder shops, and markets, will have to be closed, and services will have to stop, with the exception of private healthcare, social care, financial, postal, and car repair services, suspended between March 8 and 29.

  1. According to one doctor, the use of vaccines WHILE the pandemic is ongoing will create an opportunity to allow the virus to mutate to more infectious versions, thus prolonging the pandemic.
