Presenting the mock-ups of the project, Sesztak said he trusted the stadium would lend fresh impetus to Hungarian sports and enable the country’s sports diplomats to bid to host big sporting events.
The investment project will create plenty of new jobs and provide orders for a broad range of Hungarian suppliers, he said.
Laszlo Vigh, director of National Sports Centres, said that the new stadium would be “unique in the world” in so far as it would be built within the old one, and the space between the two would accommodate offices, a 180-bed hotel and a diagnostics centre. On its roof there will be a six-lane panorama track, open to all.
