Missing 18-year-old found dead after weeks-long search in Hungary

The search for an 18-year-old boy who went missing in early January in northern Hungary has ended in tragedy. After nearly a month of intensive efforts, authorities and volunteers have confirmed that only his body was found.
Disappeared during heavy snowfall
The young man, identified as R. Oszkár, went missing on 6 January in Sátoraljaújhely, a town near Hungary’s northern border, during a period of severe winter weather and heavy snowfall.
Following his disappearance, his family and friends were unable to reach him, his mobile phone became unreachable, and no reliable information emerged about his whereabouts.
Family offered a reward to help the search
As the days passed without any sign of the teenager, the family offered a reward of HUF 1 million (approximately EUR 2,600) to anyone who could provide information leading to his discovery, hoping it would encourage further assistance in the search.
Despite the growing urgency and public response, the efforts ultimately did not bring the hoped-for outcome.
