Men handball: Veszprém advances to the Champions League quarter finals

After a one goal away loss, MKB-MVM Veszprém has to improve to get into the next round in the most prestigious international handball championship

The Hungarian side lost the first leg at Poland against Wisla Plock to 34-33. They only managed to get close to the opponent in the final minutes. Veszprém needed a better performance to get past the Polish team. Carlos Ortega, coach of Veszprém, stressed out the importance of defense: 34 received goal are too much. Veszprém eventually won the second leg, which was the Hungarian team’s 200th Champions League match, to 31-26.

Being one goal down, the Hungarian champion started stronger. With the lead of László Nagy and Momir Ilic, Veszprém got a confident three goal lead after 15 minutes. In the 19th minute, Kamil Syprzak received his third yellow card, which meant an instant red card for him, he could not play any longer. Veszprém kept on scoring and and finished the the first half with a 5 goal advantage.
