Kover, who is also the head of Fidesz’s national board, reacted to a recent dispute between Zoltan Pokorni, a founding member of Fidesz and mayor of Budapest’s District 12, and cabinet chief Janos Lazar.
In response to critical remarks by Pokorni, directed at the “ostentatious” lifestyles of some senior officials of his party, Lazar said that “veterans should think twice before weakening us or else that could lead to their own weakening or end”.
Kover said he thought that dispute to be pointless, and suggested that such conflicts could lead to divisions within his party.
The house speaker, on the other hand, voiced agreement with Pokorni’s criticism, and insisted that his remarks reflected the opinion of some of Fidesz’s members and supporters.
