Károly Vajszada, The New Vivian Maier

Change language:

It might sound surprising, but a photographer from Upper Hungary – Lučenec (Losonc) has only recently been discovered, 444.hu reports.

According to Fortepan, Vajszada is not a talented painter, but as a photographer he is truly unique, matchless, and astonishingly good.

According to 444.hu, the date of his birth and death is not known currently. It is certain that Vajszada was a student of János Vaszary in the 20’s, but not much other information is available about the photographer at the moment. His paintings are being sold on Vatera for about 20 000 HUF each. They include still lifes, small town street photographs, and portraits of his mother from different angles.

Potential buyers should rather purchase his photographs rather than his paintings, because, presumably, their costs will multiply in a couple of weeks. Zsolt Zsanda, who obtained them from his father, lent the heritage of 6×6 negatives to Fortepan. They have an archieve of 330 pictures, all of them taken in Upper Hungary, Lučenec (Losonc) and Fiľakovo (Fülek).

The 444.hu said, Vajszada was a street photographer similar to Vivian Maier, only in a little town with less photographs, but the same attitude. That is the most important thing about his pictures. He managed to produce photo series similarly to an invisible reporter. They are about ditching, iron collecting, markets, spring showers, children sledding, carrying water, and smoking.
