Important traffic change in Budapest: here is what to look out for

On Monday, 20 February, the Népliget flyover will be partially closed. Only one lane will be available on the bridge in the direction of the city centre, while both lanes will be open from the city centre. Site works are expected to be completed in early July. This means that for a few months, traffic disruptions at the site can be expected.
In connection with the works, Budapest’s transport company (BKK) drew attention to the fact that the capacity of the flyover will be lower than at present due to the restriction. So, BKK recommends public transport, especially the M3 metro line, for those heading towards the city centre.
The closure is necessary because a detailed examination of the condition of the structure, which was inaugurated in 1978, is being started, vg.hu writes. However, Budapest Közút Zrt. stressed that the 45-year-old bridge, which is a major traffic artery and subject to enormous loads, can still be safely used, taking into account the weight restrictions in force:
