Budapest, July 9 (MTI) – Hungary will spend a total of 53 billion forints (EUR 167m) on tasks related to water management in the next five years, a deputy state secretary of the cabinet said on Thursday.
Addressing an event on the occasion of National Irrigation Day, David Mezei said that the sum was part of 1,250 billion forints (EUR 3.9bn) in European Union funding for Hungary’s rural development programmes between 2014-2020.
Mezei said the 53 billion forint total would be used to build or renew irrigation systems, for melioration projects or retaining ground waters. He added that farm producers were welcome to apply for grants up to 50 percent of the cost of their projects.
