Purchased a Hungarian motorway vignette in 2025? Beware: Passes expire this week!

Last year’s annual motorway vignettes will expire in just one day, on 31 January, yet many motorists are still postponing their renewals, Hungary’s road toll operator has warned.
In a statement released on Thursday, the toll services division of Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt. said drivers continue to leave the purchase of their annual entitlements until the very last moment, increasing the risk of congestion in the system and potential penalties.

Hundreds of thousands already purchased, but most still missing
According to the operator’s data, by 28 January 2026, more than 377,000 annual national vignettes and nearly 930,000 county-level e-vignettes had been sold.
However, almost half of last year’s national annual passes and around 70% of county passes have not yet been renewed for this year.
Chairman of the Board Tamás Bartal recalled that for 2025, motorists bought more than 700,000 national annual and nearly three million county vignettes. During the final week of January last year alone, almost 600,000 annual passes were sold, with roughly half of those purchases made in just the last two days of the month.
Important deadline for partial toll exemptions
31 January is also a key deadline for those eligible for partial toll exemptions.
For motorists with reduced mobility, the benefit remains valid only until 31 January of the year following registration. Holders of disabled parking permits must therefore reapply with the transport authority in order to remain listed in the exemption register.
