Hungarians give away their personal data very easily

Every 6th Hungarian has already been a victim of Internet fraud, but since they easily give away their data, cybercrime perpetrators do not have a difficult task.

According to szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, most Hungarians do not read the data protection regulation when they visit a website. Furthermore, 40 pc of the 18-40 generation thinks that it is beneficial if a website collects data about them – according to a survey done by Lounge Group.

The palette regarding Internet fraud is very colourful, and since these did not even exist 20-30 years ago, it is very hard to adapt to them.

According to the survey,

the Y and Z generations think differently

about what sensitive data is. Gen Y thinks that their sexual orientation, state of health, religious/political beliefs, or ethnic identity belongs to this category. Meanwhile, Gen Z would put data related to their workplace, acquaintances, travels, and shopping into that category.

However, they agree that

their sexual orientation should be more protected than their finances.

Members of Generation Z are much more conscious when it comes to data protection. However, they also think that it is beneficial for them if a website collects data because this helps them to personalise the application or website they use, which helps them save time and money.

Zsófia Szabó, leader of the Lounge Group’s research division, says that the general opinion about service offers based on the collected data is negative, and to change this trend, social media sites have a lot of responsibility.
