Hungarian wrestlers are about to prove themselves in Las Vegas

The World Wrestling Championships has begun. Several modifications have happened in the wrestling word since 2013 (when it was not even sure if the sport has a future); it became more enjoyable, more spectacular and more understandable. The number of female wrestlers has risen, too.

This year’s WWC is held in Las Vegas, where the competitors have a chance to gain quotas for the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro. Hungarian experts expect the best results in the Greco-Roman style, but they are hoping to have some wins in Freestyle as well, given Marianna Sastin’s world title.

Hungary’s first matches were held on Monday afternoon, where Tamás Lőrincz (Olympic silver), Péter Bácsi, and Balázs Kiss competed (both of them are World Champions). Everyone has high expectations of Lőrincz, who not only won an Olympic silver medal in 2012, but was among the first three in the World Championships as well.

Lőrincz has to lose 6-8 kgs in order to compete. The diet has not really worn him out, and he says even without a good draw, he will still fight for the medals. Most wrestlers say they don’t even need a good draw, and average is enough, the competitor will do the rest.

Balázs Kiss is also a World Champion, but hasn’t had the chance yet to prove himself in the Olympic Games. When asked what he wants to have in the States, he said “A big sleep and a great match.”
