Hubble Story from Dr. Hawley, the Space Looking Camera

Change language:

The Hubble Telescope is a masterpiece because it could do something astronomers have wanted to since the rise of humanity. In the 1600s, Galileo made some remarkable discoveries, and the science of space emerged. The light that travels at the speed of 5.8 trillion miles in a year can’t even measure the complete space which is immeasurable. Yet, scientists put a figure around 23 trillion light-years in diameter.

The Hubble Space Telescope used to see up to 15 billion light-years away and has been making discoveries in the past 30 years. When Al Shephard launched a space program at school Dr. Hawley joined it as a kid, and little did he know that he would be one of the crew members to put the Hubble together in space. He completed five missions on STS Discovery. Because all astronauts are usually military pilots before, he was skeptical as he was only an astronomer. But, because of his skills, he was soon into the NASA dream.

When he was studying for his doctorate in 1977 at the University of California he found an advert from NASA and he applied. This was his first step towards the stars. It was not a straightforward path to launching a telescope into space because this would mean it was a simple thing. But, Hubble was nothing simple. It was always about being in the right place at the right time. When Dr. Hawley was selected into the space program, he says to Betway Inside, he didn’t expect the results. He knew that he was not going to space because of a lack of experience. But, he was hired for a position called “astronaut candidate”. That alone was a big thing for him.
