Here is when the new section of metro line M3 will reopen

Renovations will soon be completed on another section of the metro line M3.

The technical handover of the Arany János Street station is scheduled to take place in March 2023. The metro station at Nyugati Railway Station will be inaugurated simultaneously, magyarepitok.hu reported. The information has since been confirmed by Gergely Karácsony, Mayor of Budapest.

The renovation of the middle section of the metro line started in 2019. In May 2022, four metro stations were handed over (Kálvin Square, Corvin Quarter, Semmelweis Clinics). In January this year, two more stations were completed (Deák Ferenc Square, Ferenciek Square). By March, the entire middle section will be open for travel.

The finishing touches

As part of the finishing touches, the station’s surroundings are under completion. Commenting on these final works, Hajnalka Gyécsek, project manager of SWIETELSKY Építő, said that there will also be a shop in the overground building. This will serve as an area completely isolated from underground traffic. A fire protection structure is required by safety regulations to separate the shop from the metro passenger area. However, in order to maintain the visual link between the two spaces, glass doors and a large glass panel have been built into the lightweight fire-resistant wall. These glass structures are also fire-resistant.
