A certified nursing assistant (CNA) is a medical professional that can offer personal care to patients in a lot of instances. They can also be a valuable resource to medical personnel who need assistance with tests and diagnosis. In order to become a CNA you will have to study and take a CNA practice test to ensure you have the right skills and knowledge.

In hospitals, inpatient mental health institutions, and clinics, CNAs care for patients of all ages. Their tasks vary depending on the facility in which they live and work. CNAs might help patients who are new to dialysis or are recovering from surgery and then transition them back to their rooms, monitor patients’ vital signs and environment, change bed linens, prepare meals for individual patients or groups of patients, help maintain daily schedules for residents, coordinate care with social service agencies to provide services such as home health care or transportation assistance. In addition to these duties, CNAs often function as a liaison between hospital personnel and the patient’s family members; they also often have an important role in educating staff about caring for specific patient types.

They must know how to respond quickly in emergency situations and take life-saving measures when necessary. Their duties also include providing emotional support and companionship for patients who may experience loneliness or social isolation because they lack family or friends nearby.

Certificated nursing assistants are not obliged to have a college degree, unlike other nursing professions. However, they must receive a high school diploma, GED or equivalency degree from a certified nursing assistant training program. CNA’s also need to undergo a criminal background check and pass drug screening before they can be licensed.

Individuals will be needed to pass a CNA certification exam after successfully completing CNA training. Certification exams will also vary by state, but could include a written test or an oral exam in addition to hands-on evaluations. In most cases, the fee for the exam is included in the cost of the CNA training course. Certification is valid for two years unless renewed with additional courses or work hours.
