Hungarian FM Szijjártó flew unexpectedly to Moscow for the Hungarian POWs

Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, will hold talks on the security of Hungary’s energy supply in Moscow on Wednesday, in order to ensure that the necessary amount of oil and gas will remain available at unchanged prices despite the current crisis.

In a statement issued by his ministry, Szijjártó was quoted as saying that Hungary’s energy security faced a number of challenges in the current volatile global security situation.

On the one hand, the Ukrainians are blocking the transport of oil through the Druzhba pipeline, and the Croatians are currently disputing our right to purchase Russian oil via sea routes,” he said. “At the same time, amid the Iran war, the entire global maritime transport of oil and gas is facing extraordinary challenges with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, where one-third of the world’s maritime oil trade and one-fifth of the world’s liquefied gas trade take place.

In this situation, I am here in Moscow to make sure that we still have the oil and natural gas necessary for the security of Hungary’s energy supply during the crisis, and … to make sure and receive a guarantee that the amount of oil and gas necessary for the security of Hungary’s energy supply will be delivered to Hungary by the Russians at the same price, despite the changed circumstances and the global energy crisis,” he said.

  2. “…the entire global maritime transport of oil and gas is facing extraordinary challenges with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, where one-third of the world’s maritime oil trade and one-fifth of the world’s liquefied gas trade take place.“

Wasn’t that your friend Trump? And the country that will suffer the most from the war-related shutdown is also your friend, namely China!

““We take care of and protect every Hungarian, regardless of where they are in the world. Unfortunately, in the recent period, many Hungarians were taken to the Ukrainian front as a result of the forced conscription in Ukraine. Unfortunately, many died, many went missing, and some were taken prisoner by the Russians,” he said.”

I’m truly sorry, but I don’t buy that you’re such a saint. We haven’t heard a single word of regret or sympathy from you when Ukrainian civilians were brutally murdered at the beginning of the war. And a lying saint isn’t a saint at all; he’s just a hypocrite!

  3. Perhaps he’s discussing this with his Russian brothers as well.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s radical actions against Iran have caused alarm among Russia’s elite and the Kremlin.

As Reuters reported, many expected that Trump’s return to the White House could play into Moscow’s hands in its war with Ukraine. However, the reality turned out to be the opposite.

Putin had hoped that the Trump administration’s isolationist policy philosophy would reduce Washington’s presence in Russia’s sensitive spots on the planet. Within a short time, however, he has demolished the Moscow-friendly regime in Venezuela and moved on to Iran, Putin’s key ally in the Middle East.

Trump has already expanded U.S. influence in Asia and the Caucasus, areas sensitive to Moscow, by forging ties with Armenia and Azerbaijan. The American president is acting from a position of strength, demonstrating a tough foreign policy, and this has forced Russian politicians and propagandists to dramatically change their tone.

When Trump returned to the White House, some of Russia’s elite hoped that his pragmatic and unpredictable style would allow Moscow to secure favorable terms on a war against Ukraine.

None of that has happened a year later. But a series of U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran has shown otherwise.

Russia is increasingly beginning to see Trump as a threat not only to Tehran but to Moscow itself. In fact, hopes that the American president would act softer toward the Kremlin have turned out to be an illusion.

Hungary, too, seems to be chasing an illusion regarding Trump. Like Orbán, he is only interested in his own advantage and knows no true friends. He operates with the solidarity of a wolf pack and judges others by whether they benefit him. Everything he says is just empty rhetoric. Hungary should prepare for the future and dress especially warmly.

In the background, Russian radical commentators are calling on the Kremlin to abandon the U.S.-mediated talks on Ukraine and intensify military action.

Nationalist businessman Konstantin Malofeev said the United States “poses a threat to the entire world” and seeks to weaken both Europe and Russia.

Military blogger Boris Rozhin called Trump “a monster gone mad with impunity.” He forgot Putin to mention!

  4. Szijjarto went to Moscow to plot strategy against Ukraine, against the EU and against Tisza. This may possibly include a false flag operation and will certainly include Russian intervention in the election using disnformation and various forms of on-line propaganda. He didn’t need to go to Moscow to discuss POWs. That could easily be done with a short phone call.

  5. Humans are certainly not the pinnacle of creation, because one has to wonder, is there really no lower limit to stupidity? Many people believe what they want to believe, no matter how absurd it is. Critical questioning of information is rejected from the outset if they want to accept something as true.

A new conspiracy theory has surfaced on social media. Russia or China are surely involved again.

It claims that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fled to Berlin amidst the Iran war triggered by US and Israeli airstrikes have flooded social media.

On Saturday evening, the day of the airstrikes, flight data showed that the Israeli government plane landed at Berlin Brandenburg Airport.

It was claimed online that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was on board the aircraft. Some posts accused him of fleeing the country after the start of the coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes against Iran.

A post that received over 1.5 million views claimed that Netanyahu had been spotted in a bunker “somewhere in Germany.”

In response to some of these claims, a protest was organized in Berlin, where the question was raised whether Netanyahu or another member of the Israeli government was on board.

  6. Makes more sense than ever to have Russian oil/gas period. Well done Fidesz for defending the Hungarians again.

  7. Hmmmm. Just wondering if the “Hungarian” POWs are Ukrainian citizens or Hungarian citizens, and if they have Hungarian passports?

    • You won’t get an honest answer from either side. Therefore, there’s no point in even asking the question. Hungary is only concerned with political gain, with discrediting Ukraine. For this, Hungary will stop at nothing.

In Russia, they even force people into the army if they just want to apply for a residence permit. See the notice from the Chinese embassy in Moscow to its citizens residing in Russia. Of course, you don’t hear anything about this from Szijjártó, and Mouton, naturally, finds it perfectly normal in his article.

  8. Yes, I’m aware of that, Peter. I’m implying that, depending on the citizenship of the POWs, there may be serious violations of the Geneva Convention involved. …….for Hungary, that is. Russia has already violated the Convention by using Hungarian ethnics for propaganda purposes. By the way, both Russia and Hungary are signatories to the Geneva Convention; although Russia (Vlad Putin initiated this) has withdrawn Russia from part of the Convention that deals with oversight of conduct during military operations. Surprise, surprise.

If the POWs are Ukrainian citizens, dual Hungarian or not, they are captured combatants and their transfer to a 3rd country is forbidden under the Convention.
