Good news: Early spring and nearly 20°C to arrive in Hungary next week!

Change language:
Hungary and the Carpathian Basin have been gripped by a cold front over the past few weeks. Thick clouds have obscured the sun, with temperatures barely creeping above freezing. To make matters worse, freezing rain plagued the region for days, causing disruptions and hazards on the roads. The good news is that a warmer air mass has now reached the Carpathian Basin, bringing with it the promise of early spring as January draws to a close.
According to Időkép, sunshine is expected across much of Hungary today, with only the northern regions remaining under dense cloud cover. Rainfall is anticipated mainly in Transdanubia, while strong southerly and southwesterly winds will sweep across the country. By 2p.m., temperatures are set to climb to between 5°C and 17°C. In Budapest, highs of 9°C to 10°C are forecast this afternoon – ideal early spring-like weather for a countryside walk or a stroll through nature.

On Monday, cloudy conditions will linger mainly over the northern valleys, but significant precipitation is unlikely, according to Időkép. Southerly and southwesterly winds will remain strong, with gusts expected in parts of Transdanubia. Morning temperatures will range from -2°C to 8°C, rising to 11°C to 17°C in the afternoon. The northern valleys will remain the chilliest, with highs of 5°C to 10°C.
