In terms of population, the highest number of traffic accidents occurred in Vas county in 2022. The fewest happened in Borsod county. Budapest’s leadership aims to reduce road fatalities to zero by 2050.

In 2022, there were 14,732 road traffic accidents involving personal injury in Hungary. Their number was 3.5 percent higher than in 2021. In that year, traffic was lower due to epidemic restrictions. Also, that number was 11 percent lower than in 2019, the last year before the epidemic, according to the Central Statistical Office’s (KSH) “Focus on counties” publication.

According to the summary, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county saw the biggest decrease in the number of traffic accidents, with 10 percent fewer than a year earlier. Only 6 counties saw a decrease in the number of accidents compared to a year earlier. The biggest increase was in Zala county, up 15 percent, Pénzcentrum reports.

In terms of population, the highest number of traffic accidents occurred in Vas County and the lowest in Borsod. Budapest is second in the list in terms of the number of accidents per 10,000 inhabitants.

  1. Overdue but Concur with this decision, as our utca/road usage by ALL forms of transport increases.
    Motor Circles – need POLICING the exhaust VOLUME – which when “taking off” – is quite Deafening.
