COVID-19 death toll exceeds 500 in Romania

Coronavirus death toll in Romania reached 508 on Wednesday, according to official data.

Altogether 26 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, and the confirmed cases increased by 468 during the period, bringing the total number to 9,710, said the Strategic Communication Group, the government agency authorized to publish information on COVID-19, in its daily announcement.

Meanwhile, a number of 288 patients are in intensive care units, while 2,406 recoveries were reported.

The number of confirmed cases per million population in Romania is 505, and the number of deaths is 26,

according to Worldometer, a real time world statistics website. It ranks Romania as rather serious among the Central and Eastern European countries.

In addition, COVID-19 infection among medical personnel is a matter of concern.

Health Minister Nelu Tataru told local media on Tuesday that the number of infected frontline medical personnel in Romania reached 1,033 so far, of which six people died.
