In a grand inauguration on the morning of 20 November, the five-star Dorothea Hotel opened its doors, enriching the bustling Vörösmarty Square in the heart of Budapest. The luxurious hotel boasts 216 rooms and suites and is proudly affiliated with the Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection.

An architectural gem preserving history

Situated in the capital’s fifth district, the Dorothea Hotel is housed within a distinctive block of three buildings. Each structure carries its own unique history and architectural style, Magyarepitok.hu writes. The Weber House (1873), Mahart House (1913) and Münnich House (1937) together form a harmonious blend of neo-Renaissance, Art Nouveau, modernist, and art deco elements. Notably, this ambitious project was commissioned by BDPST Group and Dorottya Investment Plc. It aimed not only to create a luxury hotel but also to contribute to the urban renewal of the surrounding area.

The hotel received its name after Maria Dorothea, Archduchess of Württemberg, a prominent figure in the 1800s. She, alongside her husband Joseph Habsburg, played a pivotal role in the cultural and economic development of the city. Market Építő Plc., in collaboration with Hungarian general designer TSPC Ltd., led the complex construction project. They ensured compliance not only with Hungarian standards but also with the rigorous requirements of the Marriott Autograph Collection Product Quality Standard. Throughout the development, preservation and restoration experts collaborated closely with local heritage conservationists to carefully safeguard the historical elements of each building. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that the Dorothea Hotel stands as a living testament to Hungary’s rich art history.
