Budapest’s most beautiful art nouveau villa is for sale, according to index.hu. It is unclear whether the owner would like to make an investment or simply renovated the building out of love.
The villa is situated in East Budapest (Mátyásföld); this area is probably the most astonishing garden suburb in the city and a great amount of similar villas can be found there. This particular building was constructed by József Dozzi, who was a famous salami manufacturer in the 19th century.
This incredible building is an excellent example of the art nouveau style. The sunflower motif can be found everywhere; on the main gate, on the walls, and even on the windows. Its tower has a strangely shaped helmet as well.
The building was renovated by Flóra Csabai who did not only preserve every tiny details (of which the villa has many), but tripled the building’s size thanks to a built-in attic and an underground garage.
The renovation started by obliterating the weed and replacing the rotten fence. An interesting fact is that most of the upper-middle class’ luxury villas had fancy main gates, accompanied by simple lath fences. The sunflower motif was not overlooked during the renovation; sunflower heads can be found on top of the columns.
