In the spring of 2016, the idea of establishing a cooking competition called Hungary’s Meal was born. On May 26 2018, the first Hungary’s Meal contest with the country’s exemplary chefs was held. Since then, the Association of Hungarian Chefs (Chef Club) announced the second competition this year, and Hungary’s favourite meal has been chosen by a professional jury.

According to the official website of Hungary’s Meal, organisers and the jury wanted to see meals which are rare, innovative but popular at the same time. Only meals with these three criteriums got the chance to compete for this unique title. It was also essential that the meal could be prepared in a kitchen with regular equipment and to be in line with Hungarian standards.

The most important criterium was that every meal had to contain traditional Hungarian ingredients. The meal had to give back the Hungarian cultural features and dining habits, and one portion had to be worth approximately 1000 HUF (3 EUR). Chefs from every part of the country arrived to show their skills with ingredients like duck, Mangalica and fish. This year, the mandatory ingredients were minced meat and sour cream.
