The best St. Martin’s Day dishes in Budapest

Change language:

“Whoever does not eat goose on St. Martin’s Day shall starve for the whole year” — or at least that is what a saying in Hungary claims. The restaurants of Budapest serve specialties made of goose for a whole month, so people cannot say that they do not have the opportunity to avoid a year of hunger. Costes Downtown

Costes Downtown — that earned a Michelin star and Tiago Sabarigo is working there as a chef — is one of Budapest’s most elegant restaurants. It prepares for St. Martin’s day with special goose dishes and new wines. This restaurant awaits gourmet guests with goose nuggets between 6 and 12 November, while they serve a delicious goose dish on Saturday and Sunday. The ground floor of Prestige Hotel Budapest offers artistically served dishes, spectacular open kitchen and unique taste combinations.

Remiz

St. Martin’s Day is important not only for folklore tradition but also for cuisine. Remiz — that is situated in a calm green area — prepares special menus between 8 and 17 November. This restaurant offers both classical and modern dishes for those interested in gastronomy. Goose dish with its liver, potato crust, onion and sodden cabbage; toast from homemade bread with goose liver and truffle cream; “Royal Tokaji” goose liver dish with a glass of Royal Cuvée. This is just a fragment of Remiz’s St. Martin’s Day menu.

Magyar Ízek Magyar Háza
