Balázs Orbán: Hungary ‘only sovereign country’ in EU
Change language:
Hungary “is the only sovereign country” in the European Union, the Prime Minister’s political director said during a roundtable organised by the 21st Century Institute and the media outlet Mandiner on Thursday in Budapest.
Balázs Orbán said the question of sovereignty concerned who decided the future, adding that the government wanted “to defend the right of Hungarians to decide their own future”.
When European integration began after the second world war, mutual trust between nations strengthened and power shifted to the centre as there was trust in the institutions, he said, adding that now, however, “the bureaucracy believes it has the right … to decide the future of Europe and the future of Europeans”.
He said Europeans sought political parties at the national level who do more than just “make promises”.
He said globalists had long seen Hungarian politics as a “hunting ground”, with the opposition “financed by foreign donors”.
