Attention: Public transport changes in Budapest this weekend

Change language:

The World Athletics Championships begin in Budapest today. On Sunday, there will be significant changes to transport in the Hungarian capital due to the events of the 20th of August celebrations. However, the police say that there will not be a continuous closure, but a so-called “dynamic closure”, where only the section of the road is closed and only for as long as necessary. There will be restrictions in 11 districts in Budapest.

20th of August celebrations

Infostart wrote that due to the preparations for the 20 August celebrations, the lower quay of Buda between Rákóczi Bridge and Margaret Bridge is already closed. The lower quay of Pest between Margaret Bridge and Közraktár Bridge will be closed from 10 PM on Friday evening until 6 AM on Monday morning. The Műegyetem quay will also be closed from Budafoki Street to Bertalan Lajos Street. From Friday midnight, closures in both directions are expected.

From Friday, tram 19 will run between Bécsi Road–Vörösvári Road and Clark Ádám Square, and between Kelenföld railway station and Döbrentei Square. Tram 41 will be diverted to run via Krisztina Boulevard, so it will not stop at the stops between Szent Lukács Spa and Rudas Spa. Trams 2, 2B and 23 will not run between Jászai Mari Square and Kossuth Lajos Square–Széchenyi Quay from 6 PM on Friday evening.
