What does the legislation say?
Hungarian law doesn’t make any provision for medical cannabis per se. But, the Hungarian National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (OGYÉI) does allow the use of a cannabis-derived drug called Sativex. This drug is beneficial in the treatment of multiple sclerosis conditions.
It’s worth noting that CBD is legal in most parts of Europe and according to Hungarian law, cannabis that contains less than .2% of the THC compound is considered hemp and is thus legal to grow.
Is it legal to buy CBD in Hungary?
While there are plenty of websites that sell CBD and advertise it as a legal substance in Hungary, the Hungarian government hasn’t taken a definitive stance for or against CBD. So whether edibles are legal or not is up for interpretation.
Based on legislation, it’s legal to cultivate hemp in Hungary, but only if it contains less than 0.2% THC. This would mean that supplements and edibles that contain CBD are only allowed if they’re derived from hemp seeds and contain only trace amounts of THC as indicated above.
