Debreceni VSC and MTK Budapest both won at home yesterday evening to progress to the 2nd qualifying round of the Europa League. Videoton FC were on the receiving end of a 2-0 defeat in Moldova but still edge through 3-2 on aggregate.

Having drawn 1-1 away from home in the first leg MTK Budapest appeared to have the toughest task of Hungary’s three Europa League entrants. Both sides squandered opportunities to score as the match became stretched, but Bese put the tie beyond doubt with six minutes left to play as he finished off another fine move down the right. MTK now face Azerbaijani side Gabala FK.

Debreceni VSC were looking to entertain a crowd of over 8,000 against San Marino side La Fiorita, having won the away leg 5-0. They dominated the match from start to finish but found it hard to break down a well organised defence. They had to wait until just before half-time to take the lead, Tibor Tisza receiving a pass from Dávid Holman before turning and lashing the ball high into the net from 10 yards out.
