Ader Proposes Increasing EU Energy Security In Warsaw

(MTI) – President Janos Ader made a proposal aimed at increasing energy security in the European Union at a two-day summit of his Central and Eastern European counterparts also attended by the US president in Warsaw.

Ader told Hungarian journalists after the meeting that he had asked Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and Traian Basescu, Romania’s head of state, to ensure construction of two gas interconnectors on their side of the border to facilitate gas supplies from those two countries to Hungary, should the need arise.

Ader referred to Hungary’s decision after the 2006 crisis to ensure two-way supplies between the country’s gas distribution network and the pipelines of neighbouring countries. He added that Hungary had completed the necessary developments to supply gas to Croatia, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine, through the Hungarian network.

Concerning the whole of the European Union, Ader proposed that the community should ensure more funds to build terminals which could help Hungary import liquefied gas from Qatar, or later from the US or other countries.
