Katowice (MTI) – Hungarian President Janos Ader participated in the 9th Hungarian-Polish Friendship Day celebrations in Katowice, Poland, on Saturday.
In a speech to mark the event, Ader said the people in this region of Europe know well that nations with a future are those that can see beyond their own interests.
“Only those nations can hope to win the respect of others that stand up from their own rights, but also honour the rights of others, that are capable of selfless sacrifice and are understanding,” he said.
“Our friendship is of such value that it is worth taking care of in all situations. This friendship makes us all better people, better Hungarians and better Poles,” he added.
Ader and his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski inaugurated a memorial to Henryk Slawik of Poland and Jozsef Antall Sr. of Hungary, two politicians who saved thousands of people in Hungary during the Second World War.
