A spring getaway in medieval Hungary? Yes, please!

If you are looking for the ideal place for a spring getaway, you might want to check out Puchner Castle Hotel in Bikal, Baranya County. It is not really a hotel but a large estate with several buildings, baths, a theme park, and much more.

Sleep in a castle

Guests can choose from a variety of rooms at Puchner Castle Hotel. The two most popular choices are the castle and the palace. I stayed in the castle, which was everything you would expect: large rooms with high ceilings and fancy wallpaper. Princess fantasies can be definitely fulfilled here.

Wellness & Spa

There are two separate baths within the main bathhouse. There is a French Bath which was not my favourite, to be honest. The kid’s pool is in there, so the place is everything but peaceful and quiet. However, it is ideal for families with smaller children. If peace is what you are looking for, go next door to the Moroccan Bath. The Moroccan Bath has a very special atmosphere that is inspired by the One Thousand and One Nights. The Dome of the building is covered with colourful stripes of fabric which let just enough sunlight through to let you read a book comfortably, but the whole place stays somehow semi-dark. When it gets darker outside, very atmospheric lamps set the mood for resting and pampering.

There is also a Renaissance Bath on the estate which is located in a different building, in the Palace. This bath is 18 and above, so no kids in sight. It is very romantic with its three separate jacuzzies and with its VIP room where couples can spend two hours undisturbed, accompanied by a bottle of champagne and a fruit plate.
