Hungarians coming home: First flight from Dubai on the way to Budapest

Change language:

Budapest is about to welcome the first Emirates flight from Dubai since the recent airspace restrictions caused by escalating tensions in the Middle East. The EK111 service took off from the United Arab Emirates primarily carrying Hungarian passengers returning home or transferring through Dubai.

Limited schedules due to airspace restrictions

Emirates is operating on a significantly reduced schedule, confirmed to last at least until 23:59 on 7 March, according to AIRportal.hu. The ongoing airspace restrictions mean that airports across the region can only handle a fraction of their normal traffic, leaving many travellers uncertain about flight availability.

According to Budapest Airport, the EK111 flight is expected to arrive at 13:38 local time. While this is a positive step towards resuming regular air travel, airlines in the region continue to extend suspensions of scheduled services on a day-to-day basis.

Evacuation flights for Hungarian passengers

This was not the first flight bringing Hungarians back from the region. On 4 March, 87 passengers returned from Jordan, and a repatriation flight from Sharm el Sheikh is planned for today.

Despite the challenges, some limited operations have resumed at Dubai airports, which signals cautious optimism for the gradual restoration of international flights in the region.

  2. It’s good news to see Hungarians finally returning home from Dubai to Budapest. Dubai has always been a global hub where people from different countries live, work, and travel. Many visitors also enjoy exploring the luxury lifestyle of the city, including driving exotic cars. During my last visit, I even came across options like a yellow Lamborghini Urus rental in Dubai which really shows how unique the city’s car culture is. For anyone interested, you can check it here: https://levelupcarrent.com/en/car/yellow-lamborghini-urus-rental-in-dubai. Safe journey to everyone on the flight and hopefully they can visit Dubai again in the future.
