“This is bad news for Europe,” Viktor Orbán said, adding that they were prolonging a war “which obviously has no solution at the front but which involves terrible destruction”.
“Some 35,000 people die or become crippled each month while the front lines hardly move, leaving hundreds of thousands of widows, orphans, mothers mourning their sons, that is what Brussels supports,” Orbán said.
Meanwhile “hundreds of billions of euros are burnt … for nothing: this war does not cripple Russia but Europe,” the prime minister said, adding that “it also creates a risk of nuclear war, with Europe facing a nuclear power.”
Hungary can be dragged into the war
“They would drag us into it if we let them,” Orbán said, adding that opposition Tisza Party leader Peter Magyar “last week in Munich signed a secret pact with Brussels leaders with German assistance.” He insisted that Magyar would “enter Hungary among warring European countries and approve financial aid to Ukraine in exchange for support from Brussels and Kyiv.” He would “detach Hungary from cheap oil and gas”, Orbán said.
The prime minister also suggested that the deal was kept secret “so that Hungarians should not learn the truth before the election”. Tisza has “sided with Ukraine rather than the Hungarians” in the energy war, Orban said.
“Hungary must stay out of this. The Hungarian government must preserve Hungary’s security. We will accomplish that,” he said.

Orban has zero to offer Hungarians. He is an economic failure and all he has done is stolen the money of Hungarians and the EU. The only thing he has left is scary stories about outside forces to possibly attract your vote. The question is whether Hungarians are stupid enough to fall for it. The longer any government stays in power the deeper the corruption gets and the longer they stay in the more entrenched the corruption becomes. It’s time for change.

Washington continues to pressure Moscow and supply weapons to Ukraine, but the war has no military solution. At the same time, US President Donald Trump’s patience on this issue is not limitless. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this, according to the US State Department’s website.

Reuters reports the US has found leverage to pressure Russia in talks on peace in Ukraine. The United States has slowed the sale of LUKOIL’s international assets to pressure Russia as part of peace talks on Ukraine. This Reuters was reported by four sources familiar with the talks.
The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) will extend the deadline for a deal on the Russian oil corporation’s assets from February 28 to April 1, 2026. Three Reuters sources told Reuters that talks in Geneva, Abu Dhabi and Miami raised the topic of lifting U.S. sanctions on Rosneft as well as LUKOIL.
A U.S. official told Reuters that the U.S. Treasury Department extended the deadline for a deal with the Russian company to “facilitate continued negotiations with LUKOIL and reach an agreement that will support President Trump’s efforts to deprive Russia of the revenue it needs to maintain its war machine and achieve peace.” LUKOIL would receive no upfront payment if the assets are sold, and all proceeds would be frozen in its accounts and remain in US jurisdiction, he added.
LUKOIL’s deal was previously overseen by OFAC, Reuters writes, but now senior officials from the White House, the Finance Ministry and the State Department are involved in the process, three sources said, adding that Finance Ministry head Scott Bessent is personally overseeing the deal.
LUKOIL announced the sale of its foreign assets after the U.S. Finance Ministry imposed sanctions on it and Rosneft in late October. The sanctions involve freezing all of the companies’ assets in the United States and banning American organizations from doing business with them. The ministry explained the measures by Russia’s “lack of serious interest in the peace process” over Ukraine.

Russian regions enter fifth year of war with record financial hole and the financial deficit has reached an all-time peak.
