Budapest is getting ready for Sziget: Óbuda Island closed to road traffic!

Sziget: Óbuda Island closed to traffic

The closure affects the entire festival period, scheduled for 6–11 August, as well as the days before and after, needed for extensive construction and cleanup on the island. As a result, changes have been made to public transportation in the area, particularly to the 226 bus route.

According to the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK), the 226 bus will temporarily operate only between Nyugati railway station and Aquincum, skipping Óbuda Island entirely. During the closure, the 226 will stop instead at the 34 bus’s Kaszásdűlő H and Záhony Street stops, as well as the 106 bus’s Aquincum H stop.

The H5 suburban railway (HÉV), which serves the northern districts of Budapest and Szentendre, will run more frequently than usual. Night bus services in the area will also operate with increased capacity to handle the expected surge in festival-goers.
