Fathers raising children alone should also be exempt from personal income tax, says Hungarian opposition party

The Democratic Coalition (DK) has proposed a bill to extend the personal income tax (PIT) exemption, which currently applies to mothers with two children, to fathers who are raising their children alone, the party’s parliamentary spokesperson announced at an online press conference on Saturday.

Olga Kálmán stated that it will now be revealed whether the ruling Fidesz party values maximising votes or actually improving the quality of life for families with children. If the latter, she is calling on government party members of parliament to support the DK proposal.

The politician emphasised that the government often acts as if only families with at least two children matter, which she believes is unjust. She argued that no child should be valued less than another, regardless of whether they have siblings.

“We have a responsibility for every child, even if they don’t have a sibling,” she stressed.
