Hungarian FM hosts Austria’s Parliamentary President Rosenkranz for talks in Budapest

Patriots in Hungary and Austria seek “to save the European Union from rushing to its own destruction”, the foreign minister said on Tuesday, and called for action against Brussels.

Péter Szijjártó spoke after talks with Walter Rosenkranz, the head of Austria’s National Council, in Budapest, and warned that “the world has turned upside down in recent years and Europe is currently rushing to its own destruction”.

“We patriots want to stop that … through peace, stemming migration, and through re-introducing respect for the sovereignty of nation states,” Szijjártó said, adding that those efforts had built “a strong alliance between Austrian and Hungarian patriots.”

Szijjártó slammed the European Parliament for “totally ignoring the democratic will of the people” through “making it impossible for the third largest party group to take positions” and added that “an entirely anti-democratic practice” was supported by deputies of “parties that are in opposition in Hungary, but who serve as vice presidents, committee heads and deputy heads” in the EP.

“We need to act against Brussels because Brussels wants to prolong the war while we want peace. Brussels seeks to flood Europe with migrants while we want to stop migration. Brussels wants to force upon us ideologies entirely alien to normalcy, while we are carrying out a revolution of common sense,” Szijjártó said.
