Budapest public transportation ticket prices to increase, new ticket for 100E airport express

Change language:

Budapest’s public transportation ticket prices are set to rise starting 1 June 2025, but monthly pass prices will remain unchanged. Additionally, a supplementary ticket will be introduced in October for those with monthly passes using the Airport Express (100E) line, while the standard ticket price for the Airport Express will also increase. These decisions were made during a meeting of the Budapest Assembly, where the business plan for the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) and Budapest Transport Company (BKV) for the year was also approved.

According to Portfolio, the price adjustments are as follows:

  • A single ticket will increase from HUF 450 to 500 (EUR 1.25).
  • A ticket purchased on the spot will rise from HUF 600 to 700 (EUR 1.75).
  • A block of ten tickets will cost HUF 4500 (EUR 11.25), up from 4000.
  • The 30-minute ticket will be priced at HUF 600 (EUR 1.5), compared to the current HUF 530.

The proposal, signed by Mayor Gergely Karácsony, emphasised the importance of encouraging regular public transport use and affordability. Therefore, in line with the fare alliance agreement from 1 March 2024, monthly pass prices will not change. While the ticket price increases do not fully reflect the inflation of recent years and are not intended to exceed fares in comparable major cities, the 10-20% increase in occasional and daily tickets is expected to generate an additional net revenue of approximately HUF 880 million (EUR 2.2 million) annually.
