Caution! Cars Are Being Stolen With A New Trick In Hungary

Budapesti Rendőr-főkapitányság (Budapest Police Headquarters) published important public information. It calls attention to new methods of car theft, about which most of the car owners might not heard before.

According to police data we don’t pay enough attention to protect our belongings left in the car, thus they are easy prey for car thieves, states penzcentrum.hu. Criminals are continuing to “work” in busy areas of the capital city, using the simplest or else the most modern technical means to acquire our properties, informs ORFK (Országos Rendőrfőkapitányság / National Police Headquarters).

We tend to lock our cars with a single keypress, to which the car reacts with sound and light signal and we leave calmly. Many people do not suspect that the car might have remained open, because someone blocked the system. We don’t notice the offenders since the equipment they use is capable to deactivate the car’s locking mechanism even from a 100 meters far distance.

The perpetrators usually work in pairs, or sometimes alone. With an appropriate device they catch the RF signal which the car receives and decode it. With this method they can take anything valuable from the open car in only a few seconds.

The prey is some technical equipment in most cases – laptop, tablet – but many people keep jewelry, cash, debit card, an expensive pen or sunglasses in their car. The offenders prefer premium class cars, but their attempts succeed by almost every kind of brand, since we believe that our belongings are safe in the luggage rack.

Policemen say that the owners realize too late that something went missing, since this technique doesn’t cause any damage on the car – it complicates the investigation. The committed method doesn’t depend on the type of the car, and no built-in security system stands in the way of offenders with complete safety, but there is a single motion that can preserve our properties.
