Odd sight: Jellyfish appears near popular Hungarian beach – VIDEO

When we think of a typical Hungarian beach, the sight of a jellyfish is definitely not the first thing that would come to our minds. However, an invasive jellyfish species has been recorded at a popular Hungarian beach recently.
Jellyfish in the Danube Backwater
24.hu writes that a freshwater jellyfish species, Craspedacusta sowerbii, has been observed in the Danube Backwater in Fadd. This small species, just a few centimetres in diameter, is considered invasive and is believed to originate from China. While they possess microscopic stinging cells containing toxins, these stings pose a threat only to very small organisms.
Why do they appear?
In Hungary, populations of Craspedacusta sowerbii typically thrive in gravel pits and stagnant riverbeds when conditions are ideal. Although the exact reasons for their occurrence are not well understood, the species is known to be sensitive to factors such as water temperature, pH levels and water clarity.
